The red kite (Milvus milvus) is one of the Iberian birds of prey that has experienced a greater decline in its breeding populations in the south of the peninsula and currently appears as “In danger of extinction” in the Spanish Catalog of Threatened Species.
With the aim of contributing to the improvement of the red kite breeding population in this area, ONG AMUS (“Acción por el Mundo Salvaje“), withint LIFE Eurokite, started to release red kites for their reintroduction.
The success of this reintroduction will lead to a second phase of dissemination of the value and importance of this species in its habitat, giving rise to environmental education actions, ecotourism, etc…
Alfonso Godino, coordinator of “Actions for the conservation of the red kite in the southwest of Spain”, will update us on the reintroduction of the red kite and the evolution of the project.
