The Delta’s noble pen shells

The Delta’s noble pen shells

Have you heard of noble pen shells? They are the largest mollusk in the Mediterranean and the second largest on the planet, and can exceed a meter in length. It is an emblematic species as it can only be found in the Mediterranean. However, its drastic reduction due to a parasite has led scientists to declare it in danger of extinction.

On this outing we will visit the Trabucador area accompanied by guides from the Barcelona Zoo to find out about the problem of the mother-of-pearl in the Delta: put on your swimsuit or wetsuit (if you have one), grab a pair of diving or swimming goggles, and get ready for an unforgettable experience!

Warning: It is necessary to know how to swim, as the water where the nacres are located is 1.5 m deep, and you should be aware that you will be exposed to low temperatures for 20 minutes. If you get cold easily, we recommend wearing a wetsuit or, if not available, wearing lycra.
