In this #dbf22 we want citizen science to play a fundamental role and for this reason we have scheduled a series of activities related to this issue.
In addition to the round table, moderated by Laura Force from CREAF, which will take place in the Àgora space on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. , we propose a couple more news that we hope you will like them.
The Birds of the DBF
During the 7 weekends in which the 7 previous editions of the festival were held, ornitho.cat registered 221 different species of birds, from some as common as the Grey Heron or the Yellow-legged Gull, to other accidentals such as the Spotted Sandpiper of 2014 or the White-rumped Sandpiper of 2017.
We want to see how many we managed to identify this year and if, together, we are able to get close to this figure. With all the data that we receive in the portal, whether they are complete or partial lists, random data, mortality data, etc., we will update a visible marker at the ICO stand and in marquee 1 before each conference to see, at the end of the festival, how many species we have been able to observe.
Ornitho-DBF Race
To encourage festival attendees to enter bird observations in the ornitho.cat portal and, in this way, promote participation in citizen science projects, we have prepared a contest analogous to the already famous Race Ornitho-Swarovski.
We have called it Race Ornitho-DBF, and it consists of introducing complete lists of at least 30 min., during the 3 days of the festival, within the area of the Ebro delta. All the lists that have the aforementioned characteristics will be counted, whether they have been made directly in ornitho.cat, as if they had been uploaded through the app. i-Naturalist.
Among all the lists received, we will raffle, the week after the festival, tickets, activities and accommodation for two people for the next edition of the Delta Birding Festival.
