Pedro Sandoval is 16 years old, lives in A Coruña, and is currently in his second year of high school. For the past four years, he has devoted an increasing amount of his summer holidays to helping with seabird counts at the Estaca de Bares cape.

Located at the northernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula, Estaca de Bares cape is widely regarded as one of the best places in Europe for observing seabirds. Pedro spends every summer there and has recently been collaborating with the team carrying out the seabird counts from the observatory.

This opportunity, together with the daily presence of the monitoring team, has inspired him to develop several of his own projects. One of these involves recording and analysing flock sizes, as well as their age and sex composition (whenever possible), for several species regularly seen migrating past the cape.

During his talk, he will share what life is like as a birdwatcher at this exceptional migration hotspot and present some of the first results of his project.
