Marcel Gil works as an ornithologist specializing in seabirds and is a member and editor of the SEO/BirdLife Rarities Committee and secretary of the Catalan Avifaunistic Committee.
In this talk, he will discuss how to increase the chances of detecting rare birds. The lecture will offer some practical keys, from searching for microhabitats similar to those typically used during migration, to monitoring weather conditions that may favor the arrival of certain species.
The relationship between the occurrence of rare birds and the quality of a site for the migration of common species will also be explored. Marcel will emphasize keeping track of recent sightings within our areas of influence, and the importance of staying in contact with other observers to share information and insights. A proposal to combine analysis and sensitivity, data and instinct.
