Josep del Hoyo, editor of the Handbook of the Birds of the World (1992–2013), began his work with cameras through photography, but it was only later, when he discovered video, that he recognized its great potential in this field of imagery. The various recordings he made gradually served as documentation for the illustrators of the work. This led him to travel and film in more than 100 countries, and today he has contributed over 40,000 video clips of around 5,700 wild species to the Macaulay Library (Cornell University), where they are available for everyone to view.
In this documentary we will accompany him across the 7 continents of the Earth, including Antarctica, and in addition to seeing birds of many kinds, sizes, and colors, we will learn why Josep considers video the best tool for documenting birdlife.
