Growing up among Harriers

Eneko Leonor (DBF Júnior)

Growing up among Harriers

Eneko Leonor García is an 11-year-old young ornithologist who lives in Ávila. In his first few months of life, he was already accompanying his parents into the countryside, and from the age of 5 he began birdwatching. During the pandemic, he set up his own bird observatory on his home terrace, and since then he hasn’t stopped.

With more than 320 species recorded in Spain, ornithology is his passion. He greatly enjoys taking part in bird ringing activities, bird censuses, conservation campaigns, workshops, and more. He has also contributed, together with his father, to the book Territorios pajareros.

In his talk, he will share his birdwatching life, everything he has learned over the years, and his eagerness to continue. He will tell us about the trips he takes with his family to go birding and the activities he participates in. In particular, he will talk about two activities he especially enjoys: the censuses they carry out (wintering waterbirds, marsh harrier, red kite, white stork, etc.) and the Hen and Montagu’s Harrier Conservation Campaign in Ávila, in which he has been participating for the past five years.
