“AMPLIAMAR: Identifying Key Areas for Biodiversity by Tracking Seabirds” is a 20-minute documentary that is part of the AMPLIAMAR project.
Through its images and narration, the documentary shows how essential areas for marine biodiversity conservation are identified by tracking the movements of seabirds. The script was written by Pol Declós, with revisions by Diego Vicente and Jacob González-Solís, and the filming was also carried out by Pol Declós. The production is managed by the AMPLIAMAR project itself, with funding from the Pleamar program of the Biodiversity Foundation and the European Union (FEMPA).
The AMPLIAMAR project was created with the goal of developing a proposal to expand the network of marine protected areas across all marine regions of the country. This initiative for the protection of biodiversity and marine ecosystems is based on tracking different seabird populations using GPS telemetry, and it will help delineate Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA), zones that are critical for the protection of species and natural ecosystems.
This screening will include a brief presentation by Jacob González-Solís and Diego Vicente. Jacob González-Solís is a professor, director of the seabird ecology research group at the University of Barcelona, and principal investigator and director of the AMPLIAMAR project. Diego Vicente is a researcher, project coordinator, and member of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology, and Environmental Sciences at UB.
