Àlex Ollé has been passionate about raptors for many years, especially about identifying plumages through photography—an authentic obsession!—and has published several works on the subject. He has also been part of various scientific committees and has actively contributed to the study and validation of rare and occasional species in the Iberian Peninsula.
This presentation will review the occasionally occurring raptors of the Iberian Peninsula—that is, those species which, while scarce, are observed almost every year, or appear more irregularly without being considered true rarities. The talk will cover when these birds typically appear, the areas where they are most frequently detected, and the main criteria used to distinguish them from similar taxa. Both species that have only recently begun appearing in the Peninsula and others that are now more easily detected thanks to the application of new identification criteria will be discussed.
The ultimate goal is to provide useful tools for better recognizing and interpreting these raptors whose presence, though sporadic, is of real significance.
