Bruna Roqué is a nature and natural science illustrator, and OM SYSTEM ambassator. Her background combines artistic training — with studies at Escola Massana and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh — with a scientific foundation and field experience, particularly in bird ringing projects across Europe. She currently works freelance for various organizations related to nature photography and conservation, combining illustration with visual communication and content management tasks.
In this talk, Bruna Roqué will share her process as a nature illustrator, from direct observation and taking photographs in the field to creating the final artwork in the studio. Through practical examples, she will explain how she uses her own references to overcome the challenges of working with wildlife, such as adverse weather conditions or limited time, and will highlight the importance of having lived and captured the scene as the basis for originality and respect for copyright. She will also offer practical advice on observation, photographic equipment, and composition, showing the step-by-step workflow that leads to the finished piece.
