Peter Boesman is a lifelong birder who has been focussing on the voice of birds for over 30 years. He is well known as a pioneer in recording bird sounds worldwide, and has documented more than half of the world’s bird species. He has published numerous papers that deal with bird vocalizations and taxonomy, and in recent years, he has written hundreds of detailed voice accounts about bird species from all continents.

Knowledge about birds and their vocalizations steadily continues to grow, not only as an aid to identification but also at the level of understanding vocal behaviour. On a worldwide scale, the amount of new publications every year is impressive and providing an overview in just a single talk is impossible. Peter Boesman therefore picked a number of recent topics in which he was personally involved or which he found particularly interesting. Topics range from studying cryptic species to vocal duetting but also introduces unanswered questions.

While the talk does not include any info on the practical aspects of sound recording or related hardware, Peter will obviously gladly share his experience afterwards to anyone interested.
