El arte como herramienta de conservación

María Pinta is a graphic designer and visual artist. Throughout her professional career, she has dedicated herself to supporting and using her creativity in projects related to environmental conservation.

If the Delta Birding Festival always has a space for artists, it is no coincidence: art and nature have always been closely connected. In this technical talk, María will discuss how painting and sculpture can serve as tools in a recovery programme for an iconic bird such as the bearded vulture.

Part of the success of the LIFE Pro Bearded Vulture project, in which the Foundation for the Conservation of the Bearded Vulture is involved, is based on raising chicks in human isolation, for which puppets resembling bearded vultures are used. The talk will show the process of making these puppets, including 3D modelling and the handcrafted elements of their production.

We will also discuss how other projects become a reality thanks to synergies between people working in art and environmental conservation. And we will address a question that all artists are being asked… Is the use of AI affecting your work? This could lead us to other questions, such as: should we compete with AI and its perfect images of nature, or should we perhaps break away from this idealisation and focus on the message?

It is important to analyse what those of us working in the arts contribute, in all its different forms —painting, photography, sculpture…—, and what our role is within this ecosystem.
