Les gavines de Catalunya

Albert Cama is a passionate birder and professional ornithologist from Tarragona who has spent many years studying gulls in the ports of Tarragona and Cambrils. After several years working in research, he now works as an environmental consultant.

In this talk, he will provide a practical introduction to the identification of the gull species found in Catalonia.

The session will cover both the most common species and those that occur only occasionally, with a particular focus on the most useful diagnostic features for field identification. Topics will include age-related plumage changes and an understanding of moult processes. The main identification pitfalls and the key features for distinguishing similar species will also be discussed. Using photographs and practical examples, the talk will illustrate diagnostic patterns of plumage, structure, and behaviour. Finally, it will provide an up-to-date overview of the distribution and phenology of gulls in Catalonia.
