Miquel Condom Tibau is a 17-year-old young ornithologist from Girona. His passion for nature, and especially for ornithology, began when he was 13 years old, and since then he hasn’t stopped exploring and learning about this fascinating world. Now, with plans to start a degree in Physics, he remains just as involved in this field as he was on day one.
During his talk, he will discuss bird migration, especially the kind that takes place at night, studied through a technique called Nocmig. Miquel will explain what this methodology involves, how it works, and the type of information it can provide. Unlike traditional methods such as bird ringing or visual observations, Nocmig is based on recording the sounds birds make while migrating at night.
This topic stems from his research project, in which he conducted an applied study using this methodology, analyzing nocturnal recordings collected during migration periods and exploring their potential. Throughout the project, the Junior compared this data with visual observations and other sources, such as eBird and Trektellen, to assess whether Nocmig can complement daytime methods and accurately represent the migratory patterns of a region.
