How to protect a ghost? In search of the Baillon’s crake in Catalonia (conference in catalan)

Due to its very discreet behavior, the Baillon’s crake (Porzana pusilla) is one of the most unknown species of European avifauna. Even its distribution often goes unnoticed, which makes it difficult to take measures for its conservation in the places where it nests.

A few years ago, prospecting began to be carried out to look for it in different wet areas of the Empordà, which has allowed many details of its ecology to be discovered. Albert Burgas, a biologist specializing in biodiversity conservation, has worked on numerous projects both at Catalan and international level and is currently focused on his work as a biologist through different natural spaces in the Empordà.

This September he will come to talk to us about surveys to monitor the Baillon’s crake, actions that have spread to other areas of Catalonia and that have allowed active work to begin on the conservation of this phantom species.
