Marc Illa – Shedding Light on the Darkness: Unveiling the Secret Life of Red-billed and Alpine Choughs in the Cadí-Moixeró

Marc holds a degree in Biology and has extensive experience in the field of ornithology, with a strong focus on fieldwork ranging from bird surveys to scientific ringing. Since 2012, he has been a certified ringer for the ICO (Institut Català d’Ornitolgia) and also takes part in the Sylvia project in Catalonia, as well as in several local projects with different species. He collaborates with the SOCC and the Breeding Bird Atlas of Catalonia. In addition, he is a member of the Catalan Avifaunistic Committee (CAC), a verifier for the portal www.ornitho.cat, and a member of the SEO/BirdLife Rarities Committee.

In his talk, he will introduce the Red-billed and Alpine Choughs, which, despite being common species in mountain areas, remain largely unknown and enigmatic. The presentation will cover the results obtained since the start of monitoring in 2021, through nest monitoring, direct observation, bird ringing, and GPS tagging.
