Seychelles Islands’ birds: diversity, conservation and research (conference in catalan)

9 September 2023

Gerard Rocamora, ornithologist, scientific director and president of the Island Biodiversity and Conservation center of the University of Seychelles, has lived and worked on these islands since 1995, with organizations such as BirdLife International, the IUCN, and Conservation International.

He will give us a general presentation of this archipelago avifauna, with examples of conservation and research projects carried out for the benefit of endemic and native birds, and of the large seabirds’ colonies found there. This includes the fight against invasive introduced species and the restoration of islands, the study of the biology of species and their movements (tracking), reintroductions to save birds threatened with extinction, etc.
