Restauració ecosistèmica de la Torre dels Budells: conservar a través de la fotografia de natura

Carles Santana is a biologist, co-founder of PHOTO LOGISTICS, and head of the company’s conservation projects. For more than sixteen years, he has led initiatives that demonstrate how nature photography can become a powerful tool for habitat restoration, land stewardship, and biodiversity conservation.

During his talk, he will present the conservation project that received the proceeds from DBF25 ticket sales, which have helped fund an ecosystem restoration initiative at Torre dels Budells (Montllober, Massalcoreig). Dryland landscapes are among the most threatened ecosystems in Catalonia and across the Iberian Peninsula, despite supporting some of the region’s most unique and vulnerable species. This presentation will introduce the initiative led by PHOTO LOGISTICS with the aim of restoring a former intensive agricultural field and gradually returning it to its original dryland habitat, characteristic of the Montllober mountain range.

The talk will showcase the ecological restoration work already underway, as well as the role of nature photography as a tool for raising both funding and public awareness. Thanks to the support of the Delta Birding Festival, the project has been able to acquire essential land management equipment, including a brush cutter and a wood chipper, as well as complete part of the site’s signage, helping to turn this conservation initiative into a reality. This project is an inspiring example of how collaboration between organizations can transform landscapes and create new opportunities for biodiversity.
