Ricard Gutiérrez – Presentació del llibre ¿Ornitoqué? Guía de campo para entender y ayudar a salvar la naturaleza (empezando por los pájaros…) 

Ricard Gutiérrez is a biologist specialising in zoology, with a postgraduate degree in Environmental Economics and Management. He is the author of several scientific articles and nature books, including the one he will present at this year’s festival: ¿Ornitoqué? A Field Guide to Understanding and Helping Save Nature (Starting with Birds…), published by Tundra Ediciones.

What does Ornitoqué? mean? Ornithologist, birder, naturalist, nature enthusiast… there are many ways to enjoy, understand and help conserve nature, starting with birds, the most abundant and diverse group of vertebrates. This is the book the author wishes he had when he first began—not only to get started, but also to deepen his journey towards becoming someone actively involved in nature conservation. At the same time, it is also aimed at experienced naturalists, because if we want more people to engage with nature, we must first understand ourselves better and reflect on what we can improve to continue enjoying and contributing to the study and conservation of the natural world.

In this book, readers will find everything they need to know before heading into the field, from the benefits of nature observation and the challenges that still need to be addressed, to choosing the right equipment and making the most of the tools and technology available. Once outdoors, they will discover different ways of enjoying and contributing to nature conservation. The book also teaches readers how to identify birds in the field, covering essential identification principles, common mistakes, how to avoid the “dark side” of birding, and even some almost detective-like techniques for uncovering birding frauds from the past… and the present.

It offers an overview of the Iberian Peninsula’s biodiversity through the contributions of twenty collaborators from every autonomous community and autonomous city in Spain, who share their favourite birding destinations and highlight the region’s most remarkable species, from endemic birds to the rarest visitors.
