Birds of the world is a pharaonic online project that offers the most comprehensive and accurate information on all bird species in the world.
It was born from the merger of the content of the monumental work Handbook of Birds of the World and the online platform Internet Bird Collection (Lynx Edicions) with the platforms Birds of North America and Neotropical Birds (Cornell Lab of Ornitology), and the book Bird Families of the world (Lynx Edicions and Cornell Lab of Ornithology).
Birds of the world also benefits from all the multimedia content in the Macaulay Library and distribution data from eBird.
In this talk Josep del Hoyo, founder of Lynx Edicions and editor of HBW, accompanied virtually by John W. Fitzpatrick, director emeritus of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Brian L. Sullivan, current director of BOW, will discuss the project’s history, current status, and incredibly exciting future that includes a host of opportunities for global participation.
