Àlex Sastre graduated in Chemistry, only to eventually realise that he did not want to spend his life in a laboratory and that what he was good at was explaining things. His naturalist vocation returned 10 years ago, when he began to take an interest in ornithology, while his passion for education led him, a year ago, to create @quinocelles, a social media profile dedicated to sharing knowledge about the world of birds.

“Pardalejar” is a passionate invitation to discover the world of birds. No prior knowledge is required, just curiosity and a willingness to be amazed by a natural world that is part of our everyday landscape, from large cities and urban areas to the wildest natural environments. Birds’ ability to adapt means that they are present in our daily lives, yet despite this, we hear and see them without stopping to listen to or observe them.
Àlex invites you to learn the most essential and surprising aspects of their biology and the basics you need to go out and enjoy watching them: what equipment we need, where we can observe them, why they sing, how they migrate, what their habits can tell us, and why Catalonia is a small ornithological paradise. But above all, he reminds us that getting to know birds is also a way of reconnecting with the landscape, with memory, and with a more attentive —and more vibrant— way of inhabiting the world. Getting to know and understand birds so that we can enjoy, protect and conserve them!
