Custody and monumental olive groves. An opportunity to protect biodiversity and revitalize sustainable agricultural activity (conference in catalan)

One of the most important and spectacular heritage elements that we have in Catalonia is the monumental olive trees of the Terres de l’Ebre. The largest concentration is found around the Sénia river, in the Montsià region.

Together with these monumental olive groves we find a unique heritage, housing a great and important biodiversity with flora and fauna species and the cultural heritage linked to traditional agricultural activity that has been preserved over time. Xavier Jiménez Llobera, GEPEC-EdC president and Marc Torrents Camps, GEPEC-EdC technical director, will come this September to talk to us about their project, the creation of the Terres de l’Ebre Monumental Olive Reserve. In addition, on Sunday 24 September you will be able to join the visit to the Ulldecona Olive Trees on the Delta Hot Spots guided tour that will be held as a festival closing activity.

This project focuses on implementing a socio-economic dynamism strategy based on ecological cultivation, linking it with the conservation and valorization of the olive groves themselves, of the biodiversity they host and of the cultural heritage through the territory custody. These monumental olive groves constitute one of the most impressive and ancient agricultural landscapes in Europe and in the World.
