The DBF Junior was a 2022 discovery during the festival’s last edition giving rise to a great willingness of the young public to participate in the event. After the difficult decision of the DBF organising team to select only 6 of the many stimulating projects presented by underage boys and girls, we consider that the activity was a resounding success.
This year we have done it again: we have chosen 5 young people from different towns and ages who will be the representatives of the DBF Junior in this edition. We present them and their projects:
- The first Junior will be Nil Redon, a 17-year-old who will come to talk to us about the nesting birds census in the Maresme in which he is participating, in which he has studied the relationship of these birds in the Vall de Rials and Teià with the use of pesticides and herbicides following the model of green cover cultivation.
- The second Junior will be Èlia Albert, an 18-year-old young girl who has finished her last year of high school and who is coming to present her research work called “Birds and seasons”, where she has carried out a monthly monitoring of the richness, abundance and diversity of avifauna all around 3 km transect in the municipality of Subirats using the methodology of the SOCC (Common Birds Monitoring in Catalonia).
- The third Junior will be Martí Nolla, a young partner of Picampall with whom he has done different wildlife formations. His family has a farmhouse in the middle of nature and Martí, at only 12 years old, drags his parents to promote the observation of birdlife through water sources, photo-trapping cameras, excursions with binoculars, nest boxes installation and ringing sessions.
- The fourth Junior is Ismael Domínguez, a young winner of the Bird Photographer of the Year and the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, and who now that he is 15 years old has not thought twice about coming from Cadiz to the Delta l’Ebre to explain to us with audiovisuals how he lives a photographic day in the Sierra de Grazalema, teach us live what techniques he uses with his camera and what role bird photographs play in conservation and scientific divulgation.
- The fifth Junior is Ponç Feliu, a young boy passionate about wildlife photography and who enjoys birdwatching with his father, who is the director of the Cap de Creus Natural Park, who will also be a speaker this year. Now that the young man is studying his last year of High School, he will present his end-of-year project on the recolonization of wildlife, especially mammals, in an area affected by the 2022 forest fire in the Cap de Creus Natural Park.
Get ready for a memorable experience for all ages, where the youngest will teach us how entertaining nature can be. A whole set of young promises that you should not miss!
