The marbled teal is one of the seven species of ducks that are in a critical situation in Spain and the most threatened duck in Europe. Since 2021, the Marbled Teal LIFE project has been carrying out actions in critical areas for the species in Andalusia, Valencia and Murcia with the aim of restoring at least 3,000 hectares of wetlands, its habitat, and reversing the risk of extinction. After more than two years of execution, important advances have been achieved in the species knowledge and in its conservation, which Ignacio Torres and Mario Giménez Ripoll will present during their conference.
Ignacio is deputy director of Biodiversity and Climate Change at the Biodiversity Foundation (MITECO) and director of the Marbled Teal LIFE project, and Mario is a delegate of SEO/BirdLife in the Valencian Community. Thanks to their experience in the project, they will inform us of the historical records of the presence of the marbled teal in the Ebro Delta and the potential of this area for its reintroduction. Finally, they will also present the Good Pactrices Manual for Ornithological Tourism in wetlands.
If you are interested in learning more about the project, do not hesitate to visit the exhibition of the marbled teal that you will find in the MónNatura Delta viewpoint classroom during the three days of the festival. In addition, we recommend your visit to the the Seo/Birdlife stand, in the ecotourism area (Zone B) at the comercial fair, where they will explain everything you want to know about the worrying situation of this bird.
