Juli Mauri and Joan Mor are the technicians of the Besòs River renaturalization project from 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The recovery of the Besòs and its biodiversity is part of the Besòs river renaturation strategy to increase its resilience to face the impacts of climate change, and includes freeing the ecosystems from human pressure so that they tend to self-regulate and function natural way The aim is to let nature take care of itself, allowing natural processes to repair and restore landscapes degraded by human action.
During their conference they will talk about the Santa Coloma de Gramenet Biodiversity Refuge, a project that wants to create a space within the Besòs River Park that increases the biodiversity of flora and fauna. In addition, the project makes it possible to create an ecological connector between the Serralada de Marina and Collserola, improving the landscape quality of the Besòs river basin as it passes through the city. The project also contemplates the control of exotic species and making compatible the uses of space for citizens with the generation of conditions to improve biodiversity, placing special emphasis on the generation of spaces intended for scientific work and “environmental education.”
This action, promoted by the City Council of Santa Coloma, has financial support through the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Fundación Biodiversidad) with funding from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through the Union Funds European NextGenerationEU.
