The problem of bird collisions with glass installations (conference in catalan)

Bird collisions on windows is a serious problem that affects many species, especially in urban areas, although it often goes unnoticed. The bird sees the tree through the glass, the sky or an attractive landscape reflected in it and flies in its direction, crashing into the panel.

This collision causes a great mortality of birds at a global level, affecting most of the western countries. In Catalonia, the most affected species are the protected migratory passerines, especially during the spring and autumn transit seasons.

With the aim of making this problem known, examples of problematic points and initiatives to avoid or reduce bird mortality in buildings with glass and other infrastructures with reflective material will be provided.

This conference will be given by Raül Aymí, head of the Catalan Ringing Office of the Catalan Institute of Ornithology, together with Gemma Torrelles and Alberto Muñoz, Barcelona Regional Area Sub-inspectors of the Environmental Rangers service.
