DBF2021 Conservation Project: Binoculars for the Daasanach, the most birder tribe in Africa!

Delta Birding Festival always give support to a conservation project related to Birds. This year, for the first time in the short history of this festival, we will support a project that is taking place on another continent, specifically on the shores of Turkana lake, , in the northeast of Kenya, Africa where the Daasanach tribe live.

As a result of a survey carried out by scientists Dani Burgas and Sara Fraixedas from the “Global Change and Conservation (GCC)” at the Helsinki University, a project for the integration and collaboration of members of the Daasanach tribe has been launched with the aim of deepen the knowledge of the ornithological wealth of the region and the possible development as an ecotourism destination.

From DBF we will support the project with two actions :

First, we will allocate the economic resources generated by the festival to make the publication of the first field guide of birds and other fauna for the Daasanach, written in their language, so that it becomes a basic tool for learning and the collaboration of its members.

And on the other hand , we appeal to all festival visitors to bring us binoculars you are not using to give them a second useful life in the hands of the tribe members and the Ileret ornithological club. At Oryx will collect them, we will check and fix and we will deliver them to the promotors of the project so that they can distribute them among the club members..

So don’t forget them at home, and cooperate with the most birder tribe in Africa, the Daasanach!
