The age of image

20 July 2022

The advent of digital photography can possibly be considered one of the great changes in how we perceive the reality that surrounds us. Barely 20 years ago, the number of images that each one of us received and produced from our environment was negligible compared to today. And this change has also affected ornithology.

It is almost a reality today that everything that has not been recorded in an image or video does not exist. Without going into the merits of this change, it is clear that it has greatly influenced field ornithology. Thus, the current capacity we have to record almost everything we observe in images has opened a great door to compare our experience with whoever we want, even with the whole world.

Killian Mullarney, the great Irish friend of the Delta Birding Festival, is back with us for the third time and this year to talk about how to take advantage of this new reality. And, in addition, the third edition of the “Collins Bird Guide” will also be available in English, just arrived from the printing press with the possibility, if you wish, of the signature of its main illustrator, Killian!
