Fernando Rebollo – Estepas Vivas, un proyecto para recuperar la biodiversidad meidante la restauración del hábitat y la recuperación de las especies

Fernando Rebollo is the promoter of Estepas Vivas, a conservation project that integrates agriculture, habitat management and biodiversity restoration. After more than thirty years of continuous work, the project has become a benchmark for the conservation of steppe wildlife and has helped create the conditions necessary for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in Aragon.

How can an agricultural landscape become a benchmark for nature conservation? In this talk, we will learn about the evolution of Estepas Vivas, a project developed over more than three decades that demonstrates that habitat management is the foundation for restoring biodiversity. Through landscape restoration, the creation of water points, habitat improvement and agriculture compatible with conservation, the return and establishment of numerous steppe wildlife species has been encouraged. This work has transformed the area into a site of high ecological value and contributed to its selection for the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in Aragon. An experience based on perseverance, collaboration and a long-term vision that shows that effective conservation begins with caring for the land.
