Sandra is a young naturalist from the province of Castellón, specifically from the municipality of Vistabella del Maestrat. She has been passionate about birdwatching since she was seven or eight years old, and this passion has stayed with her ever since. This year, she will be one of the DBF Junior speakers.
Her talk will share some of her most memorable birding experiences from different locations, explaining them in detail. She will speak about her recent visit to Illa de l’Aire, on the island of Menorca, during the pre-breeding bird ringing campaign. She will also present other birding hotspots on the Iberian Peninsula, such as Estaca de Bares, where she enjoyed seawatching and had the opportunity to observe several new seabird species for the first time.
She will also introduce some of the birdlife she has encountered during her trips to South Korea, her mother’s home country.
Finally, she will talk about her local patch, which she shares with other birders, highlighting several interesting records, including the first confirmed breeding record of the Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis) in the Valencian Community, as well as the breeding presence of the European Honey-buzzard (Pernis apivorus) and the Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio), all of which are considered uncommon breeding species in the region.
