The birdwatchers of the Daasanach tribe

in the Lake Turkana, located in a region of northern Kenya, one of the most important wetlands in East Africa, essential as a stopover and feeding ground for many migratory birds that winter in sub-Saharan Africa and breed in the Palearctic.

In this zone, inhabits the Daasanach tribe, which they have proven to be passionate about ornithology and have a lot of traditional knowledge about birds of their region.

Dani Burgas, ornithologist of the Global Change and Conservation (GCC) in the Helsinki University, will explain us in his talk at the festival, the cooperative project that he’s carrying out together with Sara Freixas.

They created the the Ornithological Club Ileret with the aim of delve into the knowledge of the ornithological wealth of the region and promote the development as an ecotourism destination.
